Your IMAGINATION - Your FUTURE
Imagination is the forerunner of all the
creations of man. Man’s thoughts precede everything he does. Before our bodies
move an inch, our minds have run a mile! By the time we speak a word, hundreds
of its synonyms have been uttered in our minds already. Imagination, though
unseen, is the power that creates and controls the scenes of the world! It is
God’s special gift to every human to help man project into the future and
create that future he desires. Through the means of visions, dreams and goals
setting, we are able to create things that are not in existence or re-organize
what is present. The Contents of our imagination now are the details of the
future we will live.
200 years ago, before the construction of
the Channel Tunnel, travelling on the English Waters (of Great Britain) was
grossly uncomfortable and dangerous. The weather there was harsh and stormy;
making the journey sickening and slow for even the best of traveller. Then in
1802, a French mining engineer, Albert
Mathieu, went crazy with his imagination and came up with the
most ridiculous solution; a proposal to tunnel under the English Channel, with
illumination from oil lamps, horse-drawn coaches, and an artificial island
mid-Channel for changing horses! In lay man’s terms what he meant was “let’s
dig a tunnel, several feet under the water and light the dark tunnel up with
oil lamps so that we can travel under the water with horse drawn coaches. If we
cant travel on the waters we can travel under it!” He was mercilessly
ridiculed and his idea shot down as impossible, but the possibility of this
wonder project won’t leave the imagination of other engineers, who year after
years worked on this dream.
Finally in 1994, after 6 years of hard
work by 15,000 workers and $21 billion spent, a tunnel under water just like
Mathieu imagined was built; only now it’s a rail tunnel, better, faster with
all the present day amenities! The Channel Tunnel or The Chunnel as often
called, exists today because Albert Mathieu dared to imagine a non-existent
solution to the challenge of his time! The Chunnel connects the island of Great
Britain with mainland France. It is a wonder train that travels 250 feet below
the seabed! Its roughly the size of 8 football pitches and the trains travel as
fast as 180 mph! Millions of people have journeyed in fabulous style and
comfort in this under water train. Some of the trains transport cars or trucks,
sometimes with their drivers sitting right in their vehicles! It is one of the
most amazing engineering feats of the 20th century and one of the 7 Modern
Wonders of the World.
Imagination, though unseen, creates the
scenes of the world. Whatever it is we desire to do as a group of people or as
individuals, it first has to exist in our imagination. Whether it be a grand
project like the Chunnel or everyday victory like passing an exam or marketing
a product; your imagination controls the outcome! Vivid imagination always
precedes wonders in life. Whatever battles we fight in our world, we’ve already
fought them in the imagination, for the mind is the battle field of life. The
secret to success then is to discover how to use the powers of your imagination
to create that which is yet to exist in your life, how to bring into the
physical world the wonders that lie unseen in you. Like the story of the
Chunnel, the story of humanity can be summarised in one sentence: challenges
abound everywhere, but men with great will and vivid imagination always
overcome!
The future belongs, NOT to the rich, NOT
to the mighty, BUT TO THE IMAGINATIVE!
